Vic; Inspectors to check gas profiteering

Victorian Premier STEVE BRACKS says government inspectors will check prices of liquid
petroleum gas (LPG) across Victoria this weekend in an effort to stamp out fuel profiteering.

Mr BRACKS has attacked the difference in fuel prices between metropolitan and regional
Victoria, saying things will get worse under a GST.

The Victorian government has already written to the Australian Competition and Consumer
Commission asking it to investigate the price differences.

Mr BRACKS says while the government has no power to impose a price limit, inspectors
will investigate whether some of the steeper price hikes constitute profiteering.
