Vic: Heritage program serves up $3.4 million

Victoria's heritage buildings and sites will share in $3.4 million worth of funding
for capital works under a new State Government program.

The State's Planning Minister, JOHN THWAITES, says the funding demonstrates the Government's
commitment to protect publicly-owned assets that enhance Victoria's heritage.

Among 40 projects to benefit are the State Library of Victoria (which will get $800,000),
the Echuca Locomotive Shed ($300,000), Royal Melbourne Zoo ($200,000), and the Rushworth
Shire Hall ($130,000).

The Minister says the buildings and places are irreplaceable and form a social, cultural
and economic history of the State that must be cared for and preserved.
